The Oneness of Humanity Club

February 2003

For Students and Scholars at Waikato University in New Zealand Est. 2002.

History of the club.

On October 2001 the idea of forming a club called "The Oneness of Humanity Club" was suggested at a dinner party between 6 people (4 students, one child and one in gestation). The meeting was called for the purpose of promoting unity and diversity within club activities on the University Campus at Waikato.

On March 2002 at the Waikato University Orientation week Mr Roderick Young set up a table to collect the names of interested persons and asked then what a club with this name would mean to them. The concept has developed for there.

Each day for 4 hours over the week people signed up with the club at the table and the idea of it being an online club was born where all students could be apart of one club using the computer as main access to the club.

Membership grew to over 170 persons. When the AGM was called with (70 members) the challenge of being an on-line club was felt with the need to elect officers to comply with the affiliation process set out in the Waikato Student Union (WSU) constitution and this lead to opening a Bank account. The club has officers and is affiliated.

The on-line AGM was a first in the history of the University"s WSU clubs and the on-line nature of the club would allow all students access to a club they could join while they were studying.

The AGM worked by all members being emailed and requested to reply if they wanted to be present at the AGM. Those who did reply went on to an AGM mailing list and the Agenda items were called for and sent out. The election for the four officers of President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasure came up and those present at the AGM were asked to say which of the 4 positions they did not want to hold! Those that did not reply and those that said they were not interested in any way where out of the running for officer ship. Those that replied and left only one position of interest had a greater chance of selection than those that left two positions open, which had a better chance than those who had three. This indicated who was interested in service to the club and they become the officers in this way. This worked well for an on-line club and will be used from now on.

Overview

The On line nature of the club and the use of computer cyber space gave a new scope to develop the club with its two goals of being the largest club on campus and of outwardly growing new clubs in other University Campuses around the world.

The first President of the club Asha Anderson (2002) and Vice President Ram with Roderick Young as Secretary/Treasurer were elected in the online AGM and these minutes of the AGM were able to go to a bank to open an account after the Affiliation process with WSU took place. A grant of $170 dollars for administration was given by WSU to start the club and thank you on behalf of the club for your support WSU.

The University Information Technology website department have been very supportive of the formation of a club on-line.

We hope this project becomes an undergraduate academic journal of sorts with many cultures and languages participating in the development by supporting translation work.

The material could also provide a source of information for the general public via the media who may publish it with a small royalty to the club.

2003 year is just starting and the club is looking to have its first year where students can join the club on-line using the computer and the new web page.

The Club will have the structure of a federal system within each school the electing officers and then at campus level an election will come together when groups of schools will elect delegates to come to a convention and elect the campus body.

When the club has three campuses in New Zealand that have over 3 schools per campus participating then a National body will be elected from a National convention of the campuses executives.

When three countries have a national body formed then an international body will be elected from the national executives.

So welcome to "The Oneness of Humanity Club"
